Terra, Mar e Vinho by Rita Costa

2026-07-04

Opening on 4 July 2026 at Gallery Hostel Porto, Rua Miguel Bombarda 222, this exhibition by Rita Costa brings together the artist’s practice and her long-standing connection to visual communication and painting.

In Terra, Mar e Vinho (Land, Sea and Wine), Rita Costa turns to a visual language deeply rooted in Portuguese collective memory and gives it back to us as something both intimate and shared: the worked earth, the lived sea, and wine as ritual, celebration, and continuity. Her work does not treat Portugal as an illustrative theme, but as an inner presence: a heritage that inhabits our daily lives, runs through our veins, and shapes not only our imagination, but the essence of who we are.

This exhibition is a territory of recognition. Between ancestry and belonging, labour and festivity, landscape and memory, the works evoke Portuguese culture as something alive: made of repeated gestures, inherited stories, flavours, smells, and rhythms that endure over time. Here, earth, sea, and wine become metaphors of origin, resistance, and continuity — three forces that sustain both the body and the collective spirit.

At Gallery Hostel Porto, the exhibition unfolds as a conversation between art and place: a space where memory becomes visible, and where tradition is not fixed in the past, but carried forward as a living inheritance.
